MARRAKESH
Meriem Midra is the designer of beachwear brand, Myriem. Launched in late 2013, Meriem aspires to become the leading designer for ready-to-wear fashion and beachwear made exclusively in Morocco. Each item is created using the ancestral knowledge of Moroccan artisans who handcraft each unique piece. Meriem finds inspiration in the souks of the century-old Medina of Marrakech, a place where tradition and modernity collide. Everything from beach tunics and kaftans to traditional dresses and tops are printed and embroidered to resemble Moroccan tilework with exquisite beading, tassels, and metallic accessories. The end results in a truly original piece of art that is both unique and fashionable.
This young designer hails from Marrakech, and today, Meriem is going to share her favorite places in the “Red City.” Let’s go and explore the Marrakech of this talented creative!
On a Saturday morning, Meriem loves to go to the Sirayane hotel for breakfast where the minimalist decor feels very modern thanks to small artisanal touches. She particularly like to relax in this oasis before starting her day as super mom! She also enjoys wandering the souks of the medina in the morning as she gets lost in the maze of streets. This allows her to quietly enjoy the stalls before making a break for the spice terraces which are ideal for morning tea or a panoramic sunset.
Meriem also recommends touring the dam on Lake Takerkoust where you can enjoy a delicious tagine and soak up the great outdoors. This is an ideal place to disconnect from the bustle of the city.
As you can tell, Meriem like quiet places, and it is natural that her favorite place for a drink in the late afternoon is at the Cafe de la Poste. According to Meriem, the best seats are inside near the fireplace.
Her favorite relaxation ritual? Herbal tea, soft music and soft lighting! She also works of steam in Thai boxing classes with her coach Kriss in Guéliz. If you want to start the evening off right, Meriem recommends without hesitation to go to Bo & Zin. She is a regular, and it is perfect for a dinner and a party loyal to the festive reputation of the city. The best place to party is at the Marinsky in the Palmeraie where there is always dancing, shows and good music! If you are looking for a place to shop then check out 33 rue de Majorelle which is ideal for discovering Moroccan artists and designers.
