OKHTEIN

We are pleased to present the designers of the month: Aya and Mounaz Abdelraouf of Okthein. The brand’s name means “two sisters” in Arabic, and these Cairo raised siblings have been fascinated by fashion and creation since they were children. Eventually, Aya studied communication and digital design at the American University of Cairo. Mounaz joined her sister at university, but she chose to study marketing and art. Mounaz is a talented painter who has exhibited her work in galleries in Egypt and Paris. Her artwork is also seen throughout the collections of Okthein.

 

This creative duo launched their leather and accessories brand in 2013. Okthein aims to start new trends and attract the attention of the fashion world through its expertise and understanding of Egyptian handicrafts. Many objects feature handmade embroidery, leather, and straw integrated into the leather- this is a key feature of the brand’s design aesthetic.

We admire these Egyptian sisters even more when we learned that each item is made in collaboration with a local NGO that supports Egyptian workers who face considerable financial difficulties.

Okhtein is a unique luxury brand that distinguishes itself by combining classic Egyptian craftsmanship with cutting-edge design. Its creative process and innovative techniques are making it internationally known. We are drawn to this brand thanks to its positive work ethics and incredible designs.
