HELLO BEIRUT !

This past summer we travelled to Beirut to look for undiscovered designers for My Souk in the City. We fell in love with the spirit of this city, and we are excited to show you what we discovered as we searched Beirut for new talent. The capital of Lebanon is only a 4-hour flight from Paris, and it is the perfect getaway to soak up the sun and experience the exotic culture of the Middle East. Follow us as we show you our favourite spots and suggestions for a perfect city break in this enchanting city.

The best place to stay is in the Mar Mikhael neighbourhood as it is known for its ultra-trendy shops, bars and restaurants. In all honesty, this place has nothing on New York!

There are plenty of great cafes to start your day, but we recommend Bar Tartine where you must order the zaatar croissant. This pastry is a divine mixture of sumac, sesame and thyme that our taste buds have not yet forgotten ☺ If you are in a hurry, then you can always opt for the typical Lebanese breakfast of manoushé. This pastry is like a Middle Eastern focaccia bread, and it is made in found in bakeries called feren that are distinct to this neighbourhood.

Our favorite place for lunch was by far Tawlet, a co-op dedicated to local farmers and chefs. It celebrates food and traditions that unite communities and sustainable agriculture. Each day a different chef tells the history and culinary traditions of his region of Lebanon. In addition to tasting delicious dishes and oriental pastries, you will also get to taste the local specialty beverage: rose water!

If you are in the Hamra district for lunch, then you should head to Dar Bistro. This peaceful and charming café is a great escape from the buzz of the crowded city.

After a busy day of exploring Beirut, take a break and enjoy a panoramic view of the city while enjoying a drink. There are plenty of rooftop bars in Beirut, and you’ll be spoiled for choice. Some of our favorites include: the Four Seasons, Iris Rooftop Bar, Myu and Central Bar. These spots are popular among tourists and locals alike, and they are a perfect way to relax after a seeing all Beirut has to offer.

For dinner, it is best to head to the streets of Mar Mikhael as it it is full of rich culinary offerings. The restaurants are trendy and portions are generous. We recommend The Gathering, a great restaurant located in three renovated houses built in the early 18th century. You can dine in the central courtyard and admire the olive trees that surround you ☺ Here, the food is organic, and you choose from three different menus: Italian, barbecue or appetizers.

Finish your night by heading to the Train Station in Mar Mikhael. This locale was originally the main station in the city, but it was renovated to give birth to one of the most popular nightlife places in Beirut!
